Dandruff is the commonest form of Seborrhoeic Dermatitis. Seborrhoeic Dermatitis is a common disorder with a prevalence of 7 to 10% in young adults. The term seborrhoeic is somewhat misleading in that the affected individuals do not have any abnormality of sebum production. However the term does have some descriptive use as it involves areas of skin with high density of sebaceous glands e.g. scalp, face, chest, back and genitals, and occurs in childhood and puberty when the sebaceous glands become active.
